Short film about five Pendleton women in 1909 wins international award

WALLA WALLLA — Richard L. Ramsay, the director of a short film produced by Walla Walla University’s Center for Media Ministry, was recently named Best U.S.A. Director of 2025 at the London Director Awards.

‘Color of Threads’ short film explores lives of 1909 Pendleton women

The film, which follows five women who move to the Pendleton Valley in 1909 looking to rebuild their lives, has won several awards since its first public screenings in April 2024.

Written by WWU alumna Josie Henderson, “Color of Threads” also won the title of Best Western 2025 at the Los Angeles Short Film Awards, according to a WWU news release.

The film also won two awards at the Wild West Film Festival in Vacaville, California, and has been shown at 11 film festivals.

The Center for Media Ministry offers screenings of the film at schools and churches. Groups can request screenings and discussions led by the center’s producer and director of studio operations, Matt Webster.
