Stanfield 71, Pilot Rock 50

The Stanfield Tigers were all over the Pilot Rock Rockets on Saturday, hammering out a 71-50 Blue Mountain Conference victory in Stanfield.

Guard Devin Bailey led the offensive attack for the Tigers, scoring 20 points. Quin Grogan poured in 18 and Josh Linker scored 13 for Stanfield, who nearly lost its lead in the second and third quarters.

The Tigers raced out to a 19-2 advantage in the first quarter, but the Rockets chipped away at the lead and pulled within a deuce several times in the game.

Stanfield got the best of league opponent Enterprise, 69-66, to open BMC play Friday.

For the Rockets, DMarcus Bowie and Logan Thorne both scored 17 points.

For the Tigers, both pre-Christmas matchups, Monday with Riverside and Tuesday with Umatilla, finished late and were not done by the Heralds presstime. Look at the Heralds website, www.hermistonherald.com, for the scores.

Riverside 61, Mac-Hi 29

Marco Carranza led the way once again for Riverside, scoring 12 points in a 61-29 thrashing of Mac-Hi on Friday in Boardman.

Noel Villegas helped the Pirates cause with 11 points while a resilient Erik Ruiz handed out six assists. Ruiz missed the teams last game due to an ankle injury and was thought to be out for longer, but he was able to give it a try.

During Christmas Break, however, Riverside will lose both its big men, Carranza and Victor Martinez, due to family vacations.

Ricky Angel scored 15 points for Mac-Hi.

Enterprise 71, Irrigon 60

A banner night from Colton Garrett couldnt quite push Irrigon over the top Saturday, losing to Enterprise 71-60 in  Irrigon.

Garrett scored 19 points and hauled in 21 rebounds, but the cog in the gears for Irrigon point guard Francisco Nunez picked up early fouls and was forced to the bench.

Head coach Jake McElligott dealt with the same problem against Condon/Wheeler and was able to work through it, but he wasnt so fortunate this time around. While Nunez finished the night with 17 points, Enterprise did too much damage while he was on the bench in foul trouble.

The Outlaws shot great from the perimeter and had 22 points from Marcus Lynn and 16 from Tyler Micka.

Irrigon will take the rest of the week off and host Class 1A Ione on Dec. 27.

Ione 78, Griswold 31

Coming off a rough loss to Horizon Christian, the Ione Cardinals didnt show any mercy against Griswold, laying down an emphatic 78-31 win Saturday in Ione.

Iones Kevin LaRue came off the bench to score a game-high 16 points. Steven Holland chipped in 10 while a trio of Cardinals Tanner Rietmann, Adam Collon and Micah Stillman each had eight.

The Cardinals recorded 26 steals and forced 32 turnovers.

Ione 49, Griswold 14

JoAnna Patton poured in 22 points and nabbed 11 boards to lead the Cardinals past the Griswold Grizzlies, 49-14, Saturday in Ione.

Shadow Kendrick chipped in 10 for Ione while Collette Cason scored eight. Lacey Thompson did most of her damage on the defensive end, picking up eight steals.

Hopefully the Cardinals can go without their point guard, Makenna Ramos, for awhile. She went down with an ankle injury, but head coach Mike Garrett is hoping it is just a sprain.

Riverside 42, Mac-Hi 21

The second half was especially kind to the Riverside Pirates on Saturday, outscoring Mac-Hi 27-10 en route to a 42-21 win in Boardman.

Whitley Reece led the Pirates with 13 points to help the Pirates even their record at 4-4, but a balanced fourth-quarter was what head coach Dirk Dirsken enjoyed the most.

Eight Pirates scored points in the fourth frame. Fabiola Lopez ended the game with eight points and Ivonne Dominguez scored five.

Pilot Rock 66, Stanfield 19

Saturday night wasnt particularily a good one for the Stanfield Tigers. They were held to two points in the first half and fell to Pilot Rock, 66-19, in Stanfield.

The Tigers turned the ball over 35 times and shot 6 of 13 from the free throw line.

Kaci Kamm led Stanfield with six points while Emma Gabriel and Megan Bailey both had three.

Pilot Rocks Liz Willingham led all scorers with 15 points.

C-W 65, Echo 34

The Echo Cougars dropped their first game of the season Saturday night, losing 65-34 to Condon-Wheeler in Fossil.

Lauren Elligsen scored 10 points and Kristen McCallum had nine to pace the Cougars.

The Knights were led by Msrnie Fitzsimmons 15 points and Ellie Logans 12. Jessica Logan scored eight points and hauled in eight boards for the No. 5 rated Knights.

Heppner 47, Union 43

The Heppner Mustangs escaped with a 47-43 win over Union on Saturday in Heppner.

Lindsey Cutsforth led the way with 16 points.
