Fireworks display to feature 250 shells, wall of fire

For the past six years, Hermiston has celebrated the new year with a bang, and that tradition continues at midnight Friday.
This will be our seventh annual New Years Fireworks Display, organizer and pyrotechnician Jess Terry said. Everybody likes fireworks.
The seven-minute display, which will feature 250 shells and a wall of fire this year, begins at midnight at Stockman Sports Complex off Diagonal Road. Anyone interested can view the show from the complex parking lot or the surrounding area.
The parking lot at Stockman Field is really the best place to come out and watch the fireworks, Terry said. The reason thats the location is because you need to have a big enough area to shoot, and for New Years, most people arent going to bring out their blankets and spread them out, especially this weekend when its supposed to be 10 degrees. You have to have a place for people to park.
Terry, of American Fencing, said the project started as a way for businesses to give back to the community, and it has grown every year. The show is funded through donations by local businesses.
Its basically just a thank you to the public for a good year of support, he said. We have a lot of really good sponsors who support this in order to give back to the community. The show this year will be spectacular. Dont miss it.
A full list of show sponsors will be available in an upcoming edition of the Hermiston Herald.
